1. A night of good sleep is important to relieve the symptoms of anxiety; and, relax the body and mind. You should aim for at least 6 – 8 hours of quality sleep each day. If you are facing trouble falling asleep, you can try some things like aromatherapy, head massage or simply turning off the lights and putting on soft, soothing music.

  2. Caffeine and alcohol contribute heavily to your anxiety and stress levels. Try to stop the consumption of these things or at least cut back on their intake. You can instead eat or drink things that will relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety such as fresh fruit juices, warm milk or non-caffeinated green tea. 

  3. Practice deep breathing to relax your body and calm the mind. Apart from making it a regular practice, you can try it anytime during the day when you feel stressed out or are experiencing a bout of anxiety. Sit up straight and try to take 5 deep breaths. You will immediately feel relaxed. 

  4. Make exercise a part of your daily routine. It is a known way to relax and improve overall health. Try to aim for at least 3 days of exercise in a week. You can do a variety of things like walking, running, swimming, yoga or playing a sport you like.

  5. Make time in your schedule to meet the people you love. Try to spend time with friends and family. Open up to them about your struggles; often sharing our pain is the best way to deal with it. Try to meet at least one person you like every week. 

  6. Try to identify the triggers of your anxiety and stress. It could be a person, place or even a situation. Then take proactive steps to avoid such triggers.
